Problems We Treat
At Hudson Valley Center for Cognitive Therapy, our psychologists provide specialized treatment for a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and relationship concerns. Treatment draws upon established CBT interventions tailored to the particular concern and the individual. Anxiety, OCD & Related Concerns
Generalized Anxiety & Worry
Clients learn to assess risk more accurately, reduce worry, cope more effectively with uncertainty, and manage physical symptoms of anxiety, such as muscle tension, headaches, and stomachaches.
Panic
Treatment includes education about the cycle of panic and strategies to manage physical symptoms, challenge fearful thoughts about panic, and gradually reduce avoidance.
OCD
We use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to help clients gradually face repetitive or intrusive thoughts, tolerate uncertainty and discomfort, and reduce compulsions, mental rituals, reassurance seeking, and avoidance.
Health Anxiety
Treatment helps clients reframe catastrophic thinking regarding health risks, physical symptoms, and bodily sensations while reducing excessive reassurance seeking, checking, and avoidance.
Social Anxiety
We help clients challenge assumptions about what others think of them, gradually reduce avoidance of social and performance situations, and build greater confidence in social situations.
Specific Phobias
Through gradual exposure, clients learn to challenge exaggerated perceptions of threat and danger, reduce fear and avoidance, and build confidence in previously feared situations.
Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors
We use Habit Reversal Training (HRT) to help clients increase awareness of urges and triggers, develop competing responses, and reduce hair pulling, skin picking, and other body-focused repetitive behaviors.
Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)
We use CBT and exposure-based treatment to help clients gradually approach avoided foods and eating situations, reduce anxiety, disgust, and aversion, and increase flexibility and comfort around eating.
Mood & Sleep
Depression
Clients learn to identify and reframe thoughts that contribute to sadness, hopelessness, and low self-worth while gradually reengaging in activities that provide meaning and enjoyment.
Insomnia
Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), we help clients change patterns of thinking and behavior that interfere with sleep and develop healthier, more consistent sleep habits.

Our Approach at HVCCT
Our approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which focuses on helping clients understand how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors contribute to ongoing difficulties. Treatment is active, collaborative, and goal-oriented, with an emphasis on learning and practicing strategies to modify patterns of thinking and behavior that contribute to distress and interfere with daily life.
